John Gill Commentary
At a Glance
John Gill (1697–1771) was an English Particular Baptist pastor and theologian. His Exposition of the Entire Bible is a large Reformed Baptist commentary with frequent appeals to Jewish sources.
What It Contains
Gill often gives lexical explanations, rabbinic parallels, doctrinal exposition, and polemical argument. His notes can expose a reader to older Protestant and Jewish-context questions around a text.
Orthodox Use and Caution
Gill is firmly shaped by Particular Baptist and Reformed theology. His treatment of predestination, the Church, sacraments, and Tradition should be read with explicit caution. Rabbinic citations are leads for inquiry, not automatic evidence for first-century practice or Orthodox interpretation.
