Cambridge Bible Commentary

At a Glance

The Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges was an Anglican academic series produced by J. J. Stewart Perowne and many contributors between 1882 and 1900.

What It Contains

Its notes were designed for students and teachers. They foreground grammar, literary setting, historical questions, and cross-references, often with economical explanations.

Orthodox Use and Caution

This is a useful academic aid, not a confession of Orthodox faith. Its late-nineteenth-century scholarly assumptions and Anglican context should be recognized. Use it to investigate textual and historical questions, while receiving doctrinal interpretation from the Church’s living Tradition.
